The day I was pulled from the shelter

Hi My name is Pez and here is my story!
My pawpals are: Shannon Glazer, Tammi Kay George, Melissa Curry
Lori Stevens, Karen George, Padmavathi Swarna,Kristen Smith

Pez is a small dog with a big problem. Our rescue was contacted

about a dog with a mouth problem. We rushed right out and at

first glance fell in love. Later that day it was discovered that

Pez had an oral-nasal fistula. Basically Pez had a huge hole in

the roof of his mouth. NCSU Vet school found out about Pez and

asked to see him. We rushed right down but left feeling hopeless

as the cost of the repair was way beyond our budget. A few weeks

later the vet school called and said that they might be able to help

with some of the funds. So here is what has happened:

9/14/2007 Pez became a local celebrity. Check him out

12/11/2007 Pez's titanium plate was nearly finished. Surgery was

scheduled for early January 2008.

1/11/08 Pez's surgery was performed at 9am. All went well but we

kept our fingers crossed.

3/20/08 Pez has been on antibiotics for an infection but is doing well.

Come out and meet him at our events.

4/2/08 Pez will be returning to the vet school for a couple of adjustments and tests.

He is scheduled to be admitted 4/15 and is expected to be released 4/17

4/16/08 The vet school called and said that Pez did very well. They used a tiny bit of ear to close in

a small gap that had opened. They say his appearance will not be changed. He will be picked up

tomorrow at 2pm. They would like to see him again in about a month.

5/25/08 The ear flap that was supposed to close the gap did not work.  Pez seemed really

upset at the vet school so they are going to give him a break.  Pez will need to return to the vet

school in 2 months.  We are keeping our finger's crossed and hope that he can be released and

available for adoption soon.

7/15/08 Pez has an appointment scheduled at the Vet school for next Thursday.  Everyone has

their fingers crossed hoping that this may be his last appointment and that he can be released

for adoption.

7/22/08 Pez's appointment went very well today.  He will need to go back late October but then he

should be ready to be released which would mean that Pez could be adopted into a family of his own.

8/09/08 Pez went on a playdate today in preparation for his adoption.  We havent started taking

applications yet so we are just sending him out to different people's homes that are involved

with the rescue.  He had a great time and we think he will love it when he finds his forever home.

10/14/08:  Pez has an appt scheduled this Thrusday at the vet school.  We are hoping that he will be

released and will be able to be adopted into a wonderul home.  Please keep your fingers crossed.

10/16/08: Pez is at the Vet School having some xrays done.  It looks like he will have to have another

surgery but we will know more once the team meets.

12/28/008:  Pez will return to the vet school for his final surgery on Jan 6 2009.  Please keep Pez

in your thoughts.

1/10/09: Pez is once again at his foster home and is resting comfortably.  The Dr's were happy with the

outcome of the surgery and think this is his last.  They expect him to have a healthy and happy life.  Pez will

return for a check up appointment in about 2 weeks.  If you would like to visit Pez while he is still

recovering feel free to drop by Petpourri (www.mypetpourri.com) on Monday 1/12/09.  He will be spending the

day there while his foster family is out of town.

2/2/09: Here is Pez's latest news clip

He is such a celebrity.

3/6/09:  Pez will be transferring to a new foster home on March 14th.  He has developed a little infection

and we are keeping a close eye on him.  He will remain on antibiotics for 2 months and then will be reevaluated.

5/1/09:  Pez went back to the vet school and got a 'so far so good'.  We are thrilled.  Sometimes no news is good news.
