10/16/09:  Dixon is finally at his foster home.  He is doing well and happy to be playing with other dogs.  Zoey was adopted within days of being listed.. Papi was adopted within hours of being picked up. Buddie is certainly proving to be a popular dog.

10/09/09: Dixon is doing really well.  The surgeries to repair his jaw were successful and he can leave the hospital on Monday. His foster mom got to see him eat a complete meal for the firs time on Thursday. We will list Dixon soon but he probably wont be available for 4 weeks.  On Friday we picked up Zoey.  And already she has an adoption pending.  If you watch her video at the very end you can catch a glimpse of Dixon in his fancy jaw brace.

10/4/09: Today Allison and I picked up Dixon.  He is a little 18 pound 5 month old scruffy terrier. I had to  beg Allison to let him ride in her car to the vets office because I just couldnt look at him.  His jaw is broken in two places and he is unable to close his mouth.  So his bottom jaw just  hangs open.  He looks so sad.  When you talk to him his tail wags.  I have no idea when the last time he drank or ate.  But I do know he has a full belly tonight and that he is safe and warm.  Tomorrow the healing begins.  The vet will begin with xrays and hopefully a surgery will follow.  It will be a long road for little Dixon so please keep him in your thoughts.

8/9/09:  No one seems to want our small dogs.  This is really a strange change as usually the small dogs barely stay a couple of weeks.  Our big dogs are staying less then a week which I guess is great.  The poor medium sized dogs are still doing the same.. no one seems to want them either.  It is really heartbreaking to see Hannah, Foxy, Sasha Foo and Tasha just sitting waiting for someone to love them.  All are great amazing dogs.

8/5/09: Recently Shannon and I went on a home visit for Jolene.  The couple kept saying "What happens next?"  When I finally said "this is it... our part is done."  they told us that friends had told them horror stories of how rescues had treated them.  This is not the first time we had heard this.  While we wont go into details most rescues make it easy to adopt while some make you submit to near torture.  My own brother was turned down by a rescue because he refused to give his social security number.  Needless to say we dont work that way.  The way it should go is... you put in an application.  Give us just a few days to work through it.  Please realize chances are we are working mulitple applications.  Then the foster parent will contact you to set up a meeting.  You meet the dog and hopefully fall in love.  Maybe go home and think about it because this is a lifetime decision.  Contact your given contact and then we set up a meeting at your home to fill out paperwork.  This is also called the homevisit.  We dont look in closets or even at every room we just chat usually in the kitchen and look at your yard.  If you offer us food or drink great.. if not.. no big deal.  This is not a test.. it is just a visit.  There are only 2 home visits that shocked us so much we didnt adopt the dog out.. 1 was a hoarder in Cary and 1 was a person that lied about having a fenced in yard.  So if you have been treated harshly by a rescue please dont think all rescues work that way.   There are dogs out there that need you.

7/24/09:  So far so good with little Peanut.  We are doing everything we can to help him make it but at just a pound and a half at 9 weeks it will be a fight.  We are dont want to list him but of course we wanted to share a photo of him.  Please keep little Peanut in your thoughts.

7/23/09:  Tonight Allison and I were berated for our unwillingness to hold a dog for an adopter for another 3 weeks.  We have already put the dog on hold for a week.  Allison was talked harshly to and then hung up on and I received a nasty email.  Nope we dont take any of this personally because we are not in rescue for the people we are in rescue for the DOGS.  If we held a dog for another 21 days it not only affects the dog being held but every dog being put down each of those 21 days.  See if we can place a dog we can go out and rescue another which saves that dog's life and so on and so on.  Just this month we have placed 11 dogs ( Lipton tonight and Margarita tomorrow).  If we did not have the place for those dogs where would they all be?  So to that family that promised they would drive and pick up their dog but then didnt and then arranged an equine transit to pick her up next month.. are you sure we are the wrong ones?  The truly great families are the ones that are happy when a dog is saved and sleeping in a new loving home.

6/6/09:  We had a great time at Cary Dog Days of Summer.  Lincoln and Pippy didnt get much attention because everyone seemed to be focused on the hotdogs.  A big thanks for everyone that came out to say HI.

Schultz should be listed soon.  If you like your dogs big you will love Schultz.  He is underweight at 93 pounds and should be over 100 when healthy.  He currently is recovering from eye surgery.

5/9/09:  Wow what a day.  We had a visitor for every single dog at our event.  Some were matches, some we are still waiting to hear and some were misses.  Daisy did so well at her first event.  I am still glowing from how proud I am of her.  Daisy did  not find her family today but she had a great time meeting new people.  Most of our puppies had approved applications and were just being picked up today.  Poor Fanta had an application but it wasnt a good match.  We know there is someone out there looking for a small black puppy.  Badger also did well today.  He showed up with hound ears?!  We got brand new photos of him and they should be loaded soon.  You wont believe how cute he is.  Tons of dogs have either a new home tonight or new homes on the horizon.. I just hope these adopters know how lucky they are to get a dog and respond with love and commitment.

5/5/09:  Rescue is hard.  It is heartbreaking, backbreaking and soul crushing work.  The things we see not only hurt your eyes, it hurts your heart.  We see broken bodies and broken spirits.  We know we can heal these breaks given enough time, money and talent.  The hardest thing that a rescuer sees is when a family adopts a homeless dog and when it isnt perfect the family drops the dog back on our doorstep without a backward glance.  None of our dogs have ever knocked on someone's door and asked to be adopted.  These families ask for the privilege of owning a dog. One of the only sources of unconditional love in this world and they throw that love back in these dog's faces.  Daisy was adopted as a small puppy of 7 weeks of age.  In the litter there were many puppies.  Daisy was the most headstrong of all the puppies.  The family returned Daisy 2 years later.  She was a psychological mess.  They left her with us saying "We dont know what else to do and we know you will do what is best for her."  Yes we will do what is best for her but the chance of her ever finding a home is slim.  Had they hired a professional trainer Daisy would still be with her family.  Daisy is happy and healthy in a foster home that loves her.  She has no idea a family promised to love her and protect her, her entire life but didnt.  Joey was adopted in Feb.  The family returned to us later in the week and asked if we had an training tools.  We sent them a training DVD and some trainer referrals.  They then called and said they would LOVE to have a trainer but didnt have the money.  Okay we are suckers... we refunded their adoption fee so that they could hire a trainer.  This is what they told us they would do...yes stop laughing... so flashforward 2 months.. Joey is returned for jumping on the kids.  Why didnt the trainer help them with this?  There was no trainer.  Yep this family basically ripped the rescue and the dog off.  Does anyone know the meaning of the word commitment.  We have changed our application so that one of the questions is does the applicant know that adopting a dog is a lifetime commitment.  It is crazy that we actually have to spell it out.  I know we are not alone.. rescues all over are having dogs returned at a higher rate.  Before you say Oh it is the 'hard economic times'.. .. no it isnt.. we have yet to receive a dog back because the family couldnt pay for food, lodging or vet care.. each and every dog is because of the families failure to commit. If you have a pet, please hold them close and please except my thanks for being part of the solution and not the problem.  Thanks for reading my rant... Daisy says HI.

5/1/09:  Biscuit and Copper Penny have both found homes.  Murray and Sammy also have some great applications.  The soda puppies are listed and there are a few events in May.  The first is a big adoption event at Petpourri (mypetpourri.com)  Most of our dogs will be attending this adoption event.  We hope to see you there.  On May 16th we are traveling out to Chapel Hill. We have never attended an event this far and hope that we see some friendly faces.

4/27/09:  Wow we are so tired (but happy)!  Cary Spring Daze was a great afternoon for the rescue.  A big thanks to all the past adopters that stopped by to say HI!  No one won a free t shirt as Allison was unchalleged after eating 5 pieces of zpizza.  The next time we will be out is Twig Green Day may 16th in Chapel Hill.  (www.twigliving.com)  If you are on that side of the triangle this is the perfect time to drop by and say HI.

4/23/09:  Are you hungry for some pizza?  Then come out to Cary Spring Daze and by some pizza from Zpizza.  Zpizza has made the generous offer to donate a portion of every sale at Cary Spring Daze!  Allison has issued a challenge that she can eat 3 pieces so if you are a big pizza eater come out and step up to the challenge.  If you eat the  most pizza you can win a free SPARR t shirt.

4/16/09:  Be sure to come out to Rock 4 Pets and meet Sandy, Biscuit, Kammy, Copper Penny and we are expecting to have the Brussels Griffons, Duke and Carolina out for the first time.  Sunkist and the soda puppies had their first vet check up and everyone looked great. Poor Sunkist is tired of being a mom but soon she should be available to go to her very own home.  While the family wont be out for Rock 4 Pets the foster family will have tons of photos.

4/08/09:  Jazzie and Murray are now adopted and we have a few new dogs.  We went to WCAS and pulled 3.  We should have them listed soon.  We are gearing up for the Rock 4 pets and hope to see you there

3/29/09:  Well Sunkist had her puppies. Check her and them out on the Things that make us laugh or Cry page. They will be ready for their homes in May.  Maestro is being adopted on Monday and Churchill was adopted today.  Tag is also in his new home.  The new kids are, Kammy, Badger and Murray.  We also have Jazzy a Boston that hasnt been listed yet.   We are making plans for the Rock 4 Pets event.  We hope to see you all there.

3/18/09:  Well all of the dogs Shannon picked up are spoken for. We have 3 dogs in the rescue that arent listed yet.  1 is a pregnant girl from a rural shelter, her name is Sunkist.  We are expecting her puppies any day now.  1 is a little male maltese that seems to have lost his way.  He has had a dental and should be listed soon.  We had some help from Bed and Biscuit in Fuquay to save a poor little dog with a broken leg.  After a set of xrays was taken we realized she had 2 breaks.  1 old and 1 new.... her leg cannot be repaired and will be amputated early next week.  Her name is Biscuit (of course).  Please send your good thoughts to all of these dogs.

3/10/09:  Yesterday Shannon went to a rural county and pulled 4 dogs.  1 male and 3 females.  All are under 25 pounds and we should have them listed soon.

3/6/09:  So Kino flew out the door... spending only 3 days in foster care.  Hannah Banana and Bugsy were also adopted recently.  Our new guys are Sonny (the poodle), Churchill (the bulldog) and Tag (the english setter).  Tag should be listed by the end of the weekend.  He is a real youngster and so sweet.   Pez will be transferring to a new foster home in about a week.  We think the change may be good for him.  Please keep your fingers crossed.  Foxy's skin is doing much better and she may be available in about a week.  She is such a fantastic bully girl and we want only the best for her.

2/26/09:  Popeye has finally found his home.  We are thrilled that Popeye has someone to love.  Hannah should be adopted soon and we are keeping our fingers crossed for Bugsy. We added a couple of photos from the Pedigree Awards dinner on our Photo Album page.  Joey and Kino are the new kids in the rescue.  Both are fantastic and we hope they find their homes soon.

2/20/09:  It looks like Valetine and Jelly Belly are going to be adopted soon.  None of would have thought Hannah would still be here.  The new guys should be listed soon.  We already listed Bugsy and soon we will list Joey and Sambeaux.

2/17/09:  Well we went to 2 different shelters today and pulled 3 dogs.  You should see them listed by the weekend. All 3 are super cute but completely different.  One is a small shih tzu mix in a bad mood, one is a young black and white bulldog/boxer that is full of energy and ready to play and the final one we arent really sure what he is.  We know he is brown and white and has a half of blue eye.

2/11/09:  Why dont you come out and spend the weekend with us?  On Friday night we will be at 1705 Prime having our first all night fundraiser!  Then on Sat (Valentine's Day) Come out to Petpourri and meet some of the new kids.  I have it on good authority if you mention this webpage you can get 25% off anything with a heart on it.

2/10/09:  It has been so long since we have updated this page but so much has been happening so fast.  Recently our rescue was recognized by Pedigree as an Everyday Hero.  Our rescue along with 7 others were presented with an award at the 2009 Westminster Pedigree dinner which was held on Feb 7th.  We then attended the Westminster Dog show.  While we were in NY we were also working the phone lines to help in any way with the puppymill seizure in Wayne County.  We are on their list and expect 6-8 dogs.  This in no way stopped our volunteers from saving other dogs and we have just listed all of the new kids.  If you have recently sent us an email please be patient as while we were gone we received over 200 emails.

1/6/09:  The best news ever!  Annie the 3 legged black pitty girl is happy in her new home.  Please check out the Postcards from Home Page and see her big happy family.  Pez is currently at the Vet School awaiting surgery.  He wont be able to come home until Thursday 1/8/09.

12/28/08:  We are so happy that nearly everyone was in a new home for Christmas.  Poor Cassie has not had any interest.  She is such a sweet girl that deserves a second chance.  We have several dogs undergoing medical care and will be listed very soon.  Pez's final surgery is scheduled for Jan 7th.

12/12/08:  We are gearing up for our winter fund raiser.  We wrap presents at the Borders on Walnut St.  We will be there all weekend.  If you would like to know more about SPARR feel free to stop by and talk to some of the volunteers.  Sean and George will be in and out of Petpourri this weekend.  If you are in the area please pop in and cuddle these two cute boys... for directions check out www.mypetpourri.com. We would love for our homeless pets to be home by Christmas but it doesnt seem like it will happen for them, but we will keep our fingers crossed.

12/04/08:  A couple of board members got together and realized that in 2 weeks our rescue pulled dogs from 4 different shelters: Chatham County, Wake County, Cumberland County and Harnett County.  We are thrilled to be able to help so many eventhough we are so small.  That Schnorkie is already happy in her new home.  We did get to snap a photo but we didnt even get to list her before her new family fell in love!  We are so happy to have Erin and Delta already adopted!

12/01: Well a lot has happened. Our mom to be is now a mom of ten. We also have 3 new kids in. 1 KCC mix, 1 Schnorkie mix, and 1 is a Rat Terrier mix, They will all be listed soon. We are also expecting a male German Shepherd Dog. He is only 8 months old.

11/24: Today we got Sean and Erin from the Chatham county animal shelter. We are not sure what their breeds are, but they sure are cute. We are also waiting on puppies from the beautiful Golden mix. We think they will be here in the next 2 weeks.

11/17/08:  Wow Patches got adopted before we could even snap a photo of her.  She was picked up by her foster home and by the next day had a choice of two different homes.  We are so happy that she didnt have to stay in the 'system' long.  Hopefully her new family will send a photo soon.  Mimi was also adopted and we are thrilled to know her new home will give us some chances to visit her.  We have a couple of dogs in our program but they wont be listed for a while.  One is a pregnant golden mix and Sonny just had surgery and may need another.

11/09/08:  It seems like so many of our homeless pets have found a new home.  I think the secret is to send a board member out of the country and then the adoptions just pile up.  Cassie did have her surgery to repair her ACL and is recovering well.  She is coming out of her shell a little more each day and we couldnt be happier with her progress.  MiMi had her 'good' leg taped up to help her put more weight on her weaker leg.  It was a complete failure as she chewed the tape off within the first 48 hours.  She seems much happier with it off.  Gretchin and Edna did find their home together, which is fantastic for those girlies.  Eddie is also in a new home.  Clarabelle was also recently adopted as was our cat Jo Jo.  We expect to have some new 'kids' listed soon.  But be sure to come out and visit us at the Canine Carnival at Crowder Park in Apex this Sat.  Visit our events page for all the details.  Opps almost forgot Bailiee is also in his new home.

11/02/08:  WOW yesterdays event was fantastic!  It was definitely our groups favorite event thus far this year.  If you missed it please look for the Wake County Mutt Strutt next year and come out.  Everyone attending was so nice and friendly.  It was a fantastic group.  We will be out again November 15th at Crowder Park in Apex for the Canine Carnival.  Be sure to stop by.

10/30/08:  Poor Cassie... while playing at her foster home she was a bit too playful and tore her ACL.  She will have surgery soon but it will be weeks of recovery.  Congratulations to Clarabelle.  She was officially adopted today.  We are so happy she found her family.  Champ is having a visit tomorrow.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that the visit goes well.  The new kid is Bailee.  He should be listed by the weekend.  He is such a cutie and will be attending the Mutt Strutt on Sat.  Edna and Gretchin also have a home visit tomorrow.  These two girls are so lucky to find a home together.  Hopefully this is the home for them.

10/28/08:  Cocoa Puff and Sylvester have been adopted.  We are thrilled.   We are keeping our fingers crossed for Champ and Clarabelle.  It is so confusing why Eddie hasnt been snatched up yet.  He is the perfect little dog.  We are awaiting the arrival of a shih tzu and a bichon mix.  Hopefully everything goes well with the transport.

10/18/08:  Poor Champ was returned.  It was no fault of his, he just is such a big dog at nearly 90 pounds.  Brandi's adoption was confirmed and we couldnt be happier that she is in a loving home.  Tigger was adopted.  Most of us think it was the Bee costume that did it.  We also helped out a tiny kitten find her home.  We hear she is now called GiGi.  We hope to get a photo of her in her new home.

10/07/08:  We returned to the shelter today and pulled a Tibetan Spaniel we named Eddie and a pair of female Chihuahuas.  One is a wire hair and the other a smooth.  Both are very tiny.  We should have them listed by the weekend.

10/4/08: Yesterday we pulled a cocker mix. She was very dirty and a bit matted too. She has been cleaned up now, and is being treated for an ear infection. She is such a sweet girl.  We are also got a pitty puppy. He is being treated for an eye injury.

10/2/08: The Chihuahuas have gone into a foster to adopt home! We could not be happier for hem especially since they get to stay together. They are growing their hair back too!!

9/24/08:  MiMi's surgery went well.  She is already resting at her foster home which is one day ahead of schedule.  It will be a long couple of weeks but we are confident that she has had her last surgery.  Issac and Issabelle met with a wonderful family today and we are keeping our fingers crossed.  Sylvester was listed today and we got word that Bentley will be adopted October 6th.

9/22/08:  We got some photos of Sadie in her new home.  We are so happy that she found her place in this world.  Bentley went on a home visit tonight and did really well.  We will be keeping our fingers crossed.  It looks like Champ may have a home next week, if everything goes the way we hope.

9/20/08:  We attended the Flyball Tournament today and met tons of great dogs.  We also got word this evening that Duke was adopted and Champ had a visitor.  Poor Bentley and Clarabelle.. we are hoping that 'their' homes find them soon.

9/16/08:  MiMi's hip surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday.  She will have an FHO and will be able to go back to  her foster home on Thursday.  Please send her some good thoughts as she has been through so much.

9/15/08:  Congratulations to Sadie she found her forever home in Maxton.  We are still looking for the perfect homes for Bentley, Champ and Clarabelle.  The new kids have been named Issac and Issabelle. They arent yet listed for adoption but here's a sneak peek.  IssacnIssabelle

9/14/08:  What a great time we had at the Womble Park Dog Day in the Park event.  The crowd was great as everyone there was really interested in helping out and finding more information about rescue.  A big thanks to everyone that came out to see Clarabelle, Champ and Sadie.  As you can see all 3 have new photos.  These photos were taken at the event by one of our volunteers that probably should be a professional pet photographer.  A big congratulations to Sinovy and Xander on finding their forever homes.  On Friday we picked up 4 dogs from WCAS.  Two of the dogs were transferred to Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue.  The other two will not be listed for a few weeks as they are not in the best condition. We expect a full recovery in just a matter of weeks and will list them asap.

9/11/08:  We will be heading out to the shelter on Friday.  The new kids will be listed early next week.  We hope to see you all at Womble Park in Holly Springs this Saturday from 10-2.  Champ, Clarabelle and Sadie will be attending.. hoping to meet their forever families.  We will be listing a couple of cats this weekend.  Way back when SPARR started we also rescued cats but no one really adopted cats from us and we watched kittens grow up without their family.  This will be sort of a trial.  If you are in the market for a cat please consider looking at our two... or at least spreading the word.

9/5/08:  Bentley will be at Petpourri (www.mypetpourri.com) on Monday.  Feel free to stop by and see him.  Xander will be there on Tuesday.

9/4/08:  All the new kids have been listed and we hope that they all are able to find wonderful homes.  MiMi had the vet take a look at her hip and it seems good thus far.  On Monday she will have the sling taken off and that will be the true test if her hip will remain in place.  The event for this weekend is canceled so the next event is at Womble Park in Holly Springs.  Please come out and meet some of our wonderful dogs.

8/30/08:  MiMi had her staples removed and seemd to be doing well.  She had a small set back as her hip popped out of socket.  It has been replaced and placed in a sling.  We hope this will fix the problem.  MiMi goes back to the vet later this week.  Please keep your fingers crossed.  Champ and Clarabelle will be attending the event this weekend.  Please come out and meet these two wonderful (homeless) dogs.  We are unsure if MiMi will be able to attend but hope she can make a small appearance if only for a couple of hours.

8/24/08:  Wow we can all rest now that the fundraiser is over.  It was a great night and it was great to see so many past adopters.  With such a generous crowd we can take on even more medical cases without a worry of funding.  Thank you to all the contributed and joined in the night.  Licorice had a visit today and they fell in love.  Licorice will go to the vet on Friday to have her staples removed and then I think she will be all ready for her new home.  MiMi is doing better and better each day.  She gets her staples removed on Wed.

8/21/08:  MiMi is doing very well.  She is trying to play every evening before bed.  She is moving around very well but not yet putting her right leg down.  Clarabelle was listed and she is the most perfect of dogs.  She likes everyone she meets and loves to play.  She plays really well with dogs of all sizes.  She is able to adjust her playing to soft or rough.  We did pick up a few new dogs on Friday and the Jack Russels are already heading out to new homes.  We hope it works out as they are going to be separated.  Bentley is still at the vets as he has a cold.  Once he is all clear he will go to his foster home which is anxiously awaiting his visit.

8/18/08: Mariah (mimi) had her second surgery today, she is doing better then expected. Mimi already wants to walk around and is very funny about it, she will walk on her front two paws.

8/15/2008:  We just listed Clarabelle and in a few days will list  the other dogs we pulled today.  These include 2 small Jack Russels (male and female) and the sweetest dog we have met in a long time.  He is 20 pounds and looks like a mini chow.  We have named him Bentley.

8/13/2008:  Wahoo Elmer.. . no longer homeless. He is now happy in Conneticut on his many acres playing with his sister Roo.  His dad jumped in his car and drove down to get his boy. We have already heard from him and he says that Elmer is doing great.  He fit in perfectly.  He promises to send photos soon.  Licorice had to have an FHO but came through the surgery like a pro.   She will make a full recovery and will make someone a great companion. Due to Licorice's surgery MiMi's surgery will be on Monday.   We are gearing up for the auction and have heard from many people that they will attend.  It will be nice to see so many familiar faces.

8/09/2008:  Poor Elmer - still homeless :(.  We listed Licorice today.  Her photos make her look like a big girl but she isnt.  Pez went on a play date today and did wonderfully.  We are trying to prepare him for his eventual  adoption.  We are very excited about how he did.  He will fit into almost any home flawlessly.

8/08/2008:  Today we went to the shelter and picked up Licorice.  She had spent 18 days in isolation and was thrilled to be out of there.  We should have her listed soon.

8/05/2008:  MiMi's surgery has been pushed way up.  She will have her surgery on the 13th if everything goes as planned.  This is great news as that will allow her to be adopted sooner.  So many of our past adopters are sending in photos.  It makes us so happy to see once sad dogs happy in their new homes.

8/03/2008:  Chevy was adopted this weekend.  He is happily chasing goats out in Chapel Hill.  We hope he is able to keep the goats skinny.  Elmer went to a great family for a mini vacation.  We hope the vacation turns out to be his forever home.  Please keep your fingers crossed.  MiMi's surgery may be moved up as she is doing so well.  Her staples were removed today and the vet was very impressed how her recovery is going.  Peca came in for a visit.  She looked so happy to be with her family and we can tell they were happy too.

7/30/08: Champ was listed today. He is such a good boy (handsome too.) Congrats to Mr. Griffy Jr. adopted to the best home for him.

7/28/08: Today we added pictures of some of the items that will be at the Silent Auction. We have many more items available. We hope to see you there!

7/25/08: Poor Elmer - still homeless.

7/24/08:  MiMi's surgery went well.  I visited with her today and another board member was with her throughout her surgery yesterday.  She will be able to go to her foster home for weekend care and then back to the vet during the week.  Please keep her in your thoughts.  Champ was neutered today and took it like  champ.  He is such a handsome boy.  We should have some photos of him soon.  But if you are looking for a big mastiff mix he is the boy for you.  He is such a big baby.  We hope to find him the perfect home with a big empty space on the couch.

7/21/08:  So Chevy and Champ have been picked up from Wake Co AC.  Chevy has already gone to the vet and has been deemed completely healthy.  He should be listed tomorrow.  Champ will be going to the vet on Thursday and then hopefully we will have him listed soon after that.  Griffon had his microfilaria treatment today and did very well.  Due to his nature we still are requiring his adopters to live close by.  He is so afraid of changes he will need a home that is patient and understands how a scared dog you get comes out of their shell slowly.  He did a total turn around in his foster home in about 3 weeks.

7/18/08:  Jesse has been adopted.  Wahoo.. not only that but Dottie has been adopted also.  SO many dogs have found their forever home.  We are planning on picking up some dogs this week from Wake Co.  They should be listed by the middle of the week.

7/15/08:  Jesse has a meeting set up and we hope it goes well.  She is such a great little dog but so many people dont want to have to explain why her ears look the way they do.

7/13/08:  Whitney was adopted this weekend by Oprah's (now named Gracie) mom.  We couldnt be happier.  There were so many great applications and we wish we had dogs for all of them.

7/8/08:  MiMi's surgery has been postponed so that she can be spayed.  She is being spayed on Friday and her first leg surgery is on the schedule for the 23rd.  We are gearing up for our annual fundraiser.  We hold 1 major fundraiser a year which helps us with all of our medical cases.

7/5/08:  Bumpers was adopted a couple of days ago to a wonderful family.  We have already heard he is doing well.  MiMi has been at my home during the holiday and wow is she fast on carpet and grass.  It is like she doesnt even have a problem with her back legs.  Of course we then come inside and she barely moves.  I am not sure if it is the wood floors or if she is a little sore.  She sleeps in a dog bed during the day  and in the big bed at night.  She is such a great little dog.  Once her surgeries are completed she will make some lucky person a great companion.

6/28/08: Ava took her first flight today. Her new dad waited at the airport for his girl to arrive.  We have heard from her dad saying that she is doing great.  Here is a photo of Ava during the flight. ava in flight

6/27/08:  Wow that Ava sure got adopted quickly.  She is packing her bags and will be home in SC tomorrow.  Whitney is now available for adoption.  We are thrilled that she had no major medical issues.  She just didnt like her hinney being bare.

6/26/08:  Ava is the newest kid in the rescue.  We got an urgent call from Chatham Co and Mikki was headed out there in less then 10 minutes.  Ava is a sweet Cairn Terrier.  Poor girl was covered in fleas and ticks but luckily heartworm negative.  Whitney should be available soon for adoption and Claire Bear is doing really well in her foster home.

6/25/08: MiMi's surgery was postponed as our vet had an emergency.  Seems some one had been using a dog for target practice as it had about 15 BB's throughout his body.  I guess to avoid being shot he ran out in the road and got hit by a car.  Sometimes I am so bothered by these horrible stories but the dog is safe and will be adopted into a wonderful home where he will never be shot at again.

6/24/08:  We picked up Claire from Durham APS today.  She has had a bath and is resting in her new foster home.  Tomorrow she will head out to the vet for her spay.  She is a great dog that just needs someone to take a closer look.  We should have her listed in a day or two.  Griffon had his second round of heartworm treatment and is back in his foster home.  He is a bit sore but happy to be home.  We were able to visit with MiMi today. Her first surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.  It will be a hard day for the rescue as everyone is very concerned about our girl.

6/23/08:  We had terrible news today.  Mariah, whom I call MiMi does not have a grade 4 luxated patella, she has 2.  She was born with her leg issues.  Both legs will need to be completely overhauled.  Due to her size of 6 pounds we will only do one leg at a time.  She will have pins in them for many weeks.  We were told that a 6 week rest period would be needed between surgeries.  At such a young age (1 year) it is so sad to know she has lived with this pain her entire life.  Our vet has assured us that after the surgery she will no longer be in pain but may never have a normal walk.

6/18/2008:  We were able to pick up both dogs at Wake Co.  Whitney has already been checked out and spayed.  She should be listed soon.  The one with the bad leg is still at the vet.  She will remain there until the surgery is done.  Both are going to the same foster home.  We do think that once they are listed they will be adopted quickly as they have great personalities and people love little white dogs.

6/16/2008:  So all the Norwich/maltese puppies are spoken for.  They should all be adopted by Tuesday.  We wish them and their new families well.  Bumpers is doing fantastic.  We were informed by a group out in LA that Elmer is a Dogo Argentino.  So he is the first Dogo we have ever had.  Wake Co contacted us today about 2 dogs ( 1 is in need of surgery) so we will head out there tomorrow to take a look.  We currently do not have a foster home open so we are unsure if we can fit them into our system but we will try. If we had more foster homes we could save more dogs but that is the missing puzzle piece most rescues are looking for.

6/12/08:  Well the puppies are listed and boy are they causing a stir.  Seems everyone from WV to SC wants one.  Sweetart is the first lucky one to meet her family.  Her family met her today and the adoption will become official on Tuesday.   Bumpers was released from the hospital today.  He has done so well in his foster home.  He has taken several walks and it has raised his spirits.  Once he is available we hope to find him the kindest of homes.

6/11/08:  Great news!  Beckham got a deposit at the shelter so we dont have to take him into the rescue to find a home.  He found one with the help of the Durham APS.  We wish Beckham and his new family well.  Elmer was neutered today and still in good spirits.  Check out his listing on the available dogs page.

6/10/08:  Today we went to 2 shelters.  We will be picking up one of the dogs in a couple of days once the vet has given it a complete exam.  His name is Beckham and he will be listed as soon as we get him.  We also picked up a terribly injured poodle.  We named him Bumpers because he needs a new bumper.  He had a wire tied around his hind end.  Once the skin got infected the maggots set in and the damage is too extensive to go into.  He is resting comfortably at our vet and will have surgery in the morning.  His wounds were treated and he even wagged his tail.  Though he is in terrible pain he is still sweet and wants to sit in your lap.  We will try to list him soon so that everyone can send him good thoughts.  We also pulled a little Shih Tzu named Chandler.  We are really amazed by the amount of Shih Tzu's we find at the shelters.  The poor boy was not doing well in the heat and we were asked to please take him.  He will be listed this weekend as he must be neutered tomorrow and we like to give them a couple of days of rest.  Elmer was also pulled and will be neutered tomorrow also.  Elmer is a young Lab mix that is nearly white.  He would love to have an active home, another dog to play with or someone to take him to doggy school.  Please pass the word around that these dogs need homes.  They should all be listed by the weekend.

6/9/08:  Effie Ann was adopted today so we officially have Griffon as our only available dog in the rescue.  The others will be available in a couple of weeks.  SO we are off to the shelter Tuesday.

We will transport them to the vet and then to foster homes.  They should be listed by Thursday.

6/6/08:  Troy was adopted this morning and we got an updated photo from FiFi which will be on the postcards from home page later today.  We are getting ready for the event tomorrow and hope to meet lots of new people.

6/4/8:  Webster is being adopted today and we are all so happy.  Gabby was adopted on Tuesday and Kaylin has met her family, which will adopt her in a couple of days.  We are so happy each of these dogs have found wonderful homes.  We are getting ready for our event this Sat at Bond Park. Griffon will be attending and hopefully the weather doesnt get too hot for him.  We will have a dog cartoonist there to draw the public's dogs and I hope to have one done of Griffon for the rescue.

6/1/08:  We received a call from the shelter letting us know that a mom, dad, and their babies were turned in. The mom is a Maltese/Poodle mix, The dad is a Norwich Terrier, and the babies are 4 weeks old. They were all taken to see tha vet today and all look great. The puppies will return in a few weeks for their vaccinations, and the mom to be spayed. The Dad will be neutered tomorrow and will hopefully find his forever home soon after.

5/25/2008:  The three dogs arrived this morning and we were surprised to find there were only 2.  FiFi is a small white poodle.  She is already settling in her

new foster home.  Griffon the shih tzu has already started heartworm treatment and is in a temporary foster home for the holiday weekend.  We hope to have

both dogs listed soon.  A big Thank you to Pat with Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue for helping out with these 2.

5/21/2008: Gabby is our newest SPARR dog. She was so afraid in her kennel at Wake Co. that it broke our hearts. She is so sweet. She tries so hard to do

the right thing and to be loved. Someone in her past has let her down but we hope to find a new family that will love Gabby and give her all the love she deserves.

5/20/2008: We are heading out to Wake County Animal Shelter today. Normally we list the dogs we pull the next day but we have some

adopters waiting to look at the ones we pull so hopefully at least 1 of the dogs will go directly to their new home.

5/19/2008: So we are all thrilled that 3 of our dogs are now in happy homes. We recently heard from another rescue. They would like to transfer us 3 dogs.

2 small Poodles and 1 young Shih Tzu. They will be arriving Memorial Day Weekend. When another rescue asks us to step in it is normally a pure breed rescue

and the dogs they are asking us to take are not their breed. We are always willing to take in dogs as long as we have foster homes. So of course we said YES.

One of our board members has agreed to take the 2 poodles and we have the most perfect foster home that always lends a hand with Shih Tzus.
