Everyday Hero Award 2009 -- Monday February 9th, 2009

***MEDIA ALERT***MEDIA ALERT***MEDIA ALERT*** PEDIGREE® HONORS EAST RALEIGH, N.C. ANIMAL RESCUE TEAM CO-FOUNDER FOR HER DEDICATION TO CANINES NATIONWIDE Peyton Gaudiosi Awarded the “Best Rescue Story” Award WHO: PEDIGREE® recently honored Peyton Gaudiosi of Raleigh, N.C. with the “Best Rescue Story” award for her heart-warming story about the rescue of an injured dog named Pez, and the resulting medical breakthrough. For the past six and a half years, Peyton Gaudiosi, co-founder of the non-profit Sound Pet Animal Rescue and Referral (SPARR), has heroically rescued dogs that would otherwise never find a home and be euthanized. One such canine, Pez, suffered from a mouth disformity which resulted from an injury he had as a puppy. Using new technology to create a titanium insert, doctors at N.C. State University were able to mend Pez’s lifelong wound. This groundbreaking technology will now be used to treat the head injuries of our US troops. In turn, Gaudiosi’s dedication to rescuing injured animals will now save the lives of canines and American Soldiers. It is in recognition of her selfless dedication that PEDIGREE® presented Gaudiosi with this honor. WHAT: Each year, PEDIGREE® partners with the Westminster Kennel Club to execute an awards program that recognizes individuals, organizations and shelter/rescue groups that lend a hand to help homeless dogs in their area. The awards, handed out on February 7, 2009, were given to those who work tirelessly to raise funds for dog-related causes. Winners received an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City where they were recognized for their charitable contributions at the annual PEDIGREE® Awards Dinner. They were also given box-seat tickets to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. WHY: The sad truth is that more than four million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescues every year, and nearly half of those canines never find a place to call home. To help reverse this trend, five years ago PEDIGREE® Food for Dogs created The PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive, an awareness and fundraising campaign, to help shine a spotlight on the plight of homeless dogs. Because of their love for dogs, the PEDIGREE® Brand wants to honor those who share the same passion and recognize them for their hard work and dedication to helping four-legged friends in need. INFO: PEDIGREE® is the number one brand of dog food in the world, offering a wide variety of products for different dog life stages. As an innovative market leader, PEDIGREE® is at the forefront of pet nutrition and understands pet owner needs by providing a range of innovative products and resources.
